Proximity Motorsports wanted an alphabet specialized for a car graphic based on a Mitsubishi Evo with a prehistoric ice-age theme that reflects how powerful that racing platform is. The project consisted of developing the alphabet, color scheme, illustrated graphics, and vector graphics that would all be wrapped onto the car.
The solution that was developed for this project was a group of letters that were glitchy and detailed with speed lines to give the words a modern and and aggressive feeling. Each of the letters were tilted to push the feeling of that motion further. Additional layers were added to the letterforms to make them customizable with different tones and varying levels of glitches.

Process
In my process, I created multiple concepts for this alphabet. I drew sketches for each letter and fully designed each letter with additional effects before removing some of them and settling on a final, cleaner alphabet.
I did studies of typography on other motorsports cars and chose colors that fit the background that was the car graphic this alphabet would be layer on.
The car’s graphics had to be created so that the alphabet could be layered on top of it.
Returning to the theme of the ‘ice age monster’ a color scheme was developed of orange, white, and light blue with the blues relating to frozen ice and the vibrant orange which represented the coat of a wooly mammoth.
The orange graphics proved to be a challenge because animal fur is not an appealing concept in motorsports. The solution to the problem was to abstract the fur into a glitching pattern that fit better with the typography within the alphabet. Ice graphics were created to represent the cold, rugged environment this car comes from.

To concept a design for a car wrap sometimes you need additional graphics. This project was all about developing an alphabet tailored to be wrapped onto a project car and make it really stand out.

Smithsonian Interactive Exhibit
During 2024, the B-29 bomber was added to the cluster of aircrafts at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. This project shows all digital screens installed along with the physical plane in the exhibit.
